HELPFUL TIPS:

This picture is the back of my router table which shows the raised knobs for locking my fence. Yes, that's copper pipe being used as a spacer. This makes moving the router fence forward or backward very easy because you do not need to hunt for the knobs, which are almost as high as the fence. If you use your router table a lot, you will love this tip. Try it, you will like it.

These shop-made stops for my router fence were made by using cabinet door hinges. These stops work great and are easy to make. Using aluminum is not necessary, as my first ones were made of wood.

EXACT LENGTHS OF STOP FLUTES WITHOUT MEASURING

Use a 1-1/2" wide plywood scrap board by whatever length

you need, drill a 3/4 " hole at one end, and cut off the other

end for the distance you need for the flute. For my

demonstrations, I use a board with a series of holes, spaced

1" apart, (pictured) so I don't need to make new ones

eachtime I demostrate stop flutes on short boards. For greater

measuring results, the first hole start 1" from one end and 1/2 " from the other end. Let's call this board a jig.

SETTING THE STOPS

Select the hole for the nearest length of the flute desired and slide the bushing through the jig and onto your router bit. Slide  the fence to the jig and lock down. Slide your stop until it touches the end of the jig and lock it. Flip jig end for end, keeping the same side of the jig against the fence. Repeat process for the stop on the other side.

This is nice to make stepped flutes, by selecting another hole and repeating procedure. See picture of stepped flutes on sample drawing on Home Page.

This drawing shows the stops being positioned with the jig. The hole was selected, bushing inserted, fence next to jig, and locked down.

Slide the right stop until it hits the end of the jig and lock it in place. Flip jig end for end keeping the same side of the jig against the fence. Slide the left stop until it touches the end of the jig and lock it.

The left stop and the right stop are now equally spaced

from the router bit. The length of flutes will be perfect,

without measuring.
